Such investigations have been conducted among others in relation to students. The issue of primary teachers’ social background is studied in the following paper using findings from the Longitudinal School Effectiveness Study conducted by the Educational Research Institute. The aim was to address the extent to which teachers’ education and occupation followed their social advancement and inherited social status. Indicators used for social background included\: the population of place of origin and their parents’ level of education, their occupation activity and professions \(separately for mothers and fathers\). The varied pathways leading to teacher education and preparation to be teachers were also reconstructed.
